The People's Monarch, Rochester Cathedral

Hi folks,

Today, Tuesday we thought we would attend Rochester Cathereral.

To see the Mural of Photographs......

....of the Queen to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee.  The left image is the Queen on the eve of her Coronation and on the right is an up to date contemporary image.  It is entitled "The People's Monarch:  The BBC South East Jubilee Art Project".

I know that the local people may have already seen this but I wanted to show it to a wider audience on here who have not had the opportunity to see it in real life.

Close up of the left eye of the young Queen which shows the photographs well.

Our Queen Daisy pointing out a picture.

This huge artwork is the culmination of a six week project in which viewers of BBC South East Today and listeners of BBC Radios Kent, Sussex and Surrey were invited to send in a photograph of themselves or their friends and relatives for a unique portrait of the Queen to celebrate Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee.  Many used the opportunity to remember loved ones they had lost, by the closing date in early May more than 5,500 photos had been submitted.

The right eye of the Queen, how she is today.

The artist, Helen Marshall has worked on large scale photo-mosaics, including the world's largest photo-mosaic "The Big Picture".  She viewed every photograph and with computer mosaic experts Poly Tiles, painstakingly manipulated these images to ensure they were artistically displayed within the final piece.

View from the side, I liked the fact that a lot of young children where there.

I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Thanks for dropping by.

nite nite, luv Mike. XX

  4. Yes Mike I have watched it take shape on the TV for what seems a year or more. It is a clever programme that sorts out all those picture.

Nice blog and it must be nice to have sorted out your new computer.
